Building a daily gratitude practice didn't happen overnight for me—it took time to become my natural way of being. Not because I lacked appreciation, but because I was surrounded by so much negativity from others that it was difficult not to absorb it.
Everything changed when I discovered "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne. I committed to following the gratitude practice outlined in the book, and it became the foundation of my mindful living journey.
Here's how I began:
Step One: Morning Gratitude Ritual
- Make a List: Each morning, I would write down ten blessings I was truly grateful for.
- State the "Why": For each blessing, I'd note specifically why it mattered to me.
- Read and Say the Magic Words: I'd revisit each item, either aloud or silently, and close with the words, "Thank you, thank you, thank you," feeling the gratitude deeply.
- Daily Repetition: I practiced this every morning for 27 days to build a lasting habit of focusing on abundance.
I started small—just three blessings each day during my commute with my partner. Simple acknowledgments like, "I am grateful for the air I breathe, as it sustains my life," or "I am grateful for my car, which carries me safely to work." These small moments of appreciation helped me shift my focus away from external negativity and cultivate positive energy within.
Step Two: Evening Gratitude Ritual
I found a special stone to keep by my bedside and made it part of my nightly practice. Each evening, I would hold it, close my eyes, and reflect on the day's blessings. I'd identify the single best moment I was grateful for, then whisper the magic words: "Thank you."

Eight years later, the power of gratitude still anchors my life. I end each day with gratitude prayers—thanking the universe, myself, and others for my blessings, for the beautiful moments that unfolded, for what I'm manifesting, and for the positive relationships that enrich my life.
